Hearty Congratulations, Prof. P. Elango!

The Past Pupils’ Association of Methodist Central College, Batticaloa proudly congratulates our esteemed Centralite, Prof. P. Elango, on his well-deserved appointment as Professor in Mathematics.

As a proud past student of MCC and former Chairman of the William Ault Trust Fund (WATF), your dedication, academic excellence, and commitment to service continue to inspire the MCC community.

Prof. P. Elango began his secondary education at BT/Methodist Central College, where he studied from Grade 6 through to the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE A/L) between 1981 and 1988. He earned a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Mathematics from the Eastern University, Sri Lanka in 1996. He went on to complete a Master of Science (MSc) degree by dissertation in Mathematics at the University of Malaya in 2003, specializing in Geometry and Topology.

In recognition of his academic excellence, he was awarded the prestigious International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) by the Australian Government, enabling him to pursue doctoral studies. He completed his PhD in Mathematics at Macquarie University, Australia, in 2007, with a research focus in Category Theory.


Prof. P. Elango began his academic career in 1998 as a Lecturer (Probationary) in Mathematics at the Faculty of Applied Sciences, South Eastern University of Sri Lanka. He was later promoted to Senior Lecturer and served in that capacity until 2016. He then joined the Faculty of Science at Eastern University, Sri Lanka, where he continues to engage in teaching and research in the field of Mathematics.
