William Ault Education Development Fund
The William Ault Education Development Fund (WAEDF) was established in 2014 by the Past Pupils of BT/Methodist Central College, Batticaloa to uplift the education standards of underprivileged school children in Eastern Province, particularly based in Batticaloa District. The WAEDF is administered by the elected Trustees from the Past Pupils Association of Methodist Central College, Batticaloa. This education developed fund is named after the legendary late Rev. William Ault, a British missionary, who came to Batticaloa in 1814 and pioneered formal education in the region, particularly founded BT/Methodist Central College in 1814, which is one of the oldest schools in Sri Lanka.
The WAEDF provides education support to the impoverished school children through various means, primarily they are (1) monthly financial assistance to meet their educational need (2) donation of education materials/equipment for the needy students and (3) financial assistance for the selected undergraduates, who have been previously supported by WAEDF in the schools.
Hitherto, the WAEDF is mainly funded by the Past Pupils of BT/Methodist Central College (local and overseas), well-wishers and sponsors in the region and some Non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The funds received are administered by the Trustees appointed and received funds are entirely utilised for the educational development activities, where the management cost is separately endured by the Past Pupils Association of BT/Methodist Central College, Batticaloa.
The WAEDF and Past Pupils of BT/Methodist Central College, Batticaloa are grateful to the sponsors for our activities. However, in order to sustain and expand this noble cause, the WAEDF and Past Pupils of BT/Methodist Central College, Batticaloa are continuously seeking funds from generous local and overseas sponsors.
Sincerely,
Dr. J.A. Thamboo
(Chairman/WAEDF)
